CASE STUDY

Puzzle Chess Set

A collectible chess object about strategy, patience, pressure, and self-positioning.

Narrative

Overview Puzzle is a sculptural chess piece built around strategy, patience, and self-positioning. It takes the familiar language of chess and turns it into a collectible design object. The piece is not only about the game. It is about how people move through pressure, make decisions, and learn when to act or wait. Concept Chess is used as a structure for thinking about control and positioning. Every move changes the board. Every piece has limits, value, and purpose. Puzzle adds another layer to that idea. The name suggests that identity and strategy are not always complete. People build themselves in parts, through experience, mistakes, pressure, and adjustment. The object represents that process: learning the board, understanding your role, and becoming harder to read.

Process and details

Form and Design Approach Puzzle should feel connected to chess without becoming a standard chess piece. The form needs to carry a sense of assembly, tension, and calculation. It belongs between game piece, sculpture, and personal object. It should be small enough to feel collectible, but strong enough to hold meaning on its own. Production Direction The focus is on silhouette, texture, and presence. The piece needs to feel deliberate from every angle, especially if it becomes part of a larger chess set or collectible object series. Future versions can explore different materials, finishes, and a full SON OF JULIET chess set.
